Dr. Barry Steinmetz



Dr. Barry Steinmetz is board certified in both Pediatrics, and Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition.


Dr. Steinmetz completed his medical degree and postgraduate residency training in Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine and the Texas Children’s Hospital. Dr Steinmetz completed his fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at the University of California, Los Angeles.


Dr. Steinmetz holds hospital affiliations at Miller Children’s Hospital, Fountain Valley Regional Medical Center, Torrance Memorial Medical Center, and Children’s Hospital of Orange County. He also holds an academic appointment as an Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of California, Irvine.


Dr. Steinmetz’s areas of interest include Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, and Pediatric Endoscopic procedures.


Dr. Steinmetz is an active member of the medical community, with memberships in several professional organizations, including the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterology Association, and the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. He is personally responsible for adopting cutting edge technologies at Miller Children’s Hospital, including the Bravo pH probe, high resolution Manometry, and Capsule Endoscopy for Pediatric patients. Dr Steinmetz also serves at the Medical Director for Outpatient Services and is the Associate Director of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at Miller Children’s Hospital. His work has appeared in several publications and abstract papers, and he continues to conduct ongoing research on gastroenterological conditions.


Dr. Steinmetz has been awarded Physician of the Year and Outstanding Faculty of the Year numerous times. In November of 2009, he was awarded with the prestigious Munzer Family Award, which is presented annually within all of the Memorial HealthCare System, recognizing a physician for their excellence in teaching and research.


Dr. Steinmetz enjoys spending his free time with his wife and 2 daughters. His passions include travel with his family, mountain biking and fine wines.


Dr. Steinmetz is fluent in Spanish.


Dr. Steinmetz currently has offices  in Long Beach, Fountain Valley and Costa Mesa.
